ForestWatch Selected as Beneficiary of 2018 CTS Figueroa Mountain Gran Fondo

ForestWatch is pleased to announce that we have been selected as the beneficiary of the 2018 CTS Figueroa Mountain Gran Fondo. This premiere cycling event, presented by Figueroa Mountain Brewing on November 10, 2018, features beautiful routes through the Santa Ynez Valley and an ascent of the iconic Figueroa Mountain through the Los Padres National Forest. Early bird registration is now open, and a portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to ForestWatch to support the protection of our local forest.

The full gran fondo route (Fig Epic) covers 96 miles and features 8800 feet of climbing, while a shorter medio fondo route (Fig Loop) will cover 44 miles and 5200 feet of climbing. Both routes will tackle the ascent of Figueroa Mountain, which gains 4000 feet in elevation over 9.6 miles. There will also be a family-friendly piccolo fondo route (Valley Ride) of about 31 miles through the Valley’s rolling hills. The Fig Fondo will once again feature the popular CTS Coach led pace groups. Early bird registration ranges from $85-$125. This year’s Fig Fondo will be capped at 800 riders to ensure a great experience for all participants.

“Last year at the inaugural Fig Fondo we set out to create an event that would bring together cyclists of all ability levels for a great cycling experience in one of the best places in the world to ride a bicycle. From all the positive feedback I got from participants and sponsors, I can say it was a huge success.” said CTS CEO, Chris Carmichael. “I’m excited to launch the 2nd edition of the Fig Fondo and welcome back many of the riders and sponsors from last year. It’s going to be another great weekend of riding.”

The 2018 CTS Figueroa Mountain Gran Fondo will be welcoming back presenting sponsor Figueroa Mountain Brewing Co. Los Padres ForestWatch, a local nonprofit organization protecting wildlife, wilderness, and clean water throughout the Los Padres National Forest, will also be returning to the Fig Fondo. Participants will have the opportunity to donate to ForestWatch during registration and proceeds from the Fig Fondo Legends Dinner silent auction will go to ForestWatch.

“Los Padres ForestWatch is thrilled to be this year’s beneficiary of the Figueroa Mountain Gran Fondo,” said ForestWatch executive director Jeff Kuyper. “The event gives cyclists an unforgettable opportunity to ride through the Santa Ynez Valley and the Los Padres National Forest, while supporting our mission to protect and preserve these iconic landscapes.”
