Forest advocates and outdoor enthusiasts joined together this month at ForestWatch’s 5th Annual Santa Barbara WILD!. This important annual fundraiser supports our work to protect and preserve the wild places and wild things that are so important to us all.
After a windy morning and a threatened power outage, nearly three hundred ForestWatch supporters descended on the Garden Street Academy’s playing fields and enjoyed music by Todd Hannigan with Sleeping Chief, a fabulous meal by Savoir Faire Catering, and beverages from Beckmen Vineyards, Solminer Wine Co., Refugio Ranch Vineyards, and Figueroa Mountain Brewing Co. Our emcee Geoff Green led a spirited live auction, followed by yummy desserts from Anna Woolis and coffee from Green Star. And two lucky winners took home more than eighty bottles of wine from our wine cellar raffle.
We were honored to have so many of our local elected officials in attendance. Santa Barbara County Supervisors, Gregg Hart, Joan Hartmann, and Das Williams spoke on stage about our collaborative effort to oppose new drilling and fracking on public lands in Santa Barbara County. Wendy Motta was there representing Congressman Salud Carbajal, and Assemblymember Monique Limón, Santa Barbara City Councilman Jason Dominguez, and Santa Barbara Unified School District Board Member Laura Capps were also in attendance.
This fundraiser was critical to
continuing our current projects such as fighting the Trump administration’s plan
to open up over one million acres of public land and mineral estate across
central California to new drilling and fracking leases, stopping commercial
logging near Mt. Pinos, protecting steelhead in the Sisquoc River, and so much
more.
This event would not have been
possible without the support of our sponsors, donors, attendees, Board of
Directors, staff, Event Committee, and dedicated volunteers. From the bottoms
of our hearts, we thank you for making this such a successful and fun event.
And thank you to all who attended. By helping our organization, you’re a part of something very special—you’re a part of our community. You make everything we do possible.
