Controversial ‘Fix Our Forests Act’ Threatens Environmental Protections, Sparks Widespread Opposition

Last month, the House Committee on Natural Resources quietly advanced the “Fix Our Forests Act,” H.R. 8790, spearheaded by Chair Bruce Westerman (R-Ark.). This legislation threatens to dismantle the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) safeguards and bypass crucial environmental reviews. It aims to fast-track risky forest management projects up to 10,000 acres (more than 15 square miles) with minimal public oversight, promoting unchecked tree removal and vegetation clearing.

Speeding these projects through the approval process will do little to protect our forests and communities from wildfire, but will spell disastrous consequences for wildlife, clean water, and our climate.

ForestWatch and over 80 allied organizations are furiously opposing this legislation, urging elected officials to reject it. We’re actively mobilizing to educate our local representatives and ensure they oppose this damaging bill when it comes to a floor vote.
