As COVID-19 restrictions have started to lift, ForestWatch has slowly begun to facilitate safe outdoor events as part of it’s outdoor connections and community stewardship efforts. We have been taking all precautions required by federal, state, and local health orders to keep participants safe.
In April and May we partnered with community groups like One Step A La Vez , Padres Juntos Promoviendo La Educación, and MAPAS (Making Adventure Possible for All Students) for a few outdoor excursions.
The pandemic effected our lives in many ways. Our communities faced challenges that were incredibly stressful, overwhelming, and had an impact on physical and mental health. Spending time outside is one of the most effective options for stress relief. The groups were enthusiastic about spending time outside again in community, learning, and exploring the Los Padres.
We also recently started outdoor volunteer projects again. Our first of hopefully many more to come this year was a small cleanup of an old target shooting site in the Santa Barbara frontcountry. Thank you to the volunteers who joined us for an evening of removing lead ammunition from the site!
