This past weekend, a small team of ForestWatch volunteers scoured the top of Cerro Noroeste (formerly known as Mt. Abel) for microtrash. The site of a pine-shaded campground, historic ski lodge, and relay tower, this area is a known perch location for California Condors.
The crew hauled 30 lbs. of trash — most of it litter from campers — from the mountaintop. A note of thanks to the USFS fire crew stationed at Apache Saddle, who have kept the mountaintop and the beautiful Campo Alto campground in fantastic condition and impressively litter-free. A great day of service, with outstanding views!
Since 2007, ForestWatch volunteers have completed more than two dozen cleanup efforts with the help of hundreds of volunteers, removing more than 11,500 pounds of microtrash and other trash from key sites within the condor’s range.
