The U.S. Bureau of Land Management has taken the first step towards opening more than one million acres of federal land and mineral estate in central California to drilling and fracking. The agency’s preliminary maps show several iconic landmarks at stake, including national and state parks, national forests and monuments, nature reserves, school campuses, and other private and public lands throughout our region.
When the drilling/fracking plan was first announced in August 2018, we spearheaded local community opposition and helped generate more than 8,000 public comments to BLM officials. The agency is now poised to release its draft plan and a draft environmental impact statement in Spring 2019. Your support today will help us be ready to review the documents, work with experts to send in technical comments, attend public hearings, and network with key stakeholders, the media, and our friends and neighbors throughout the region to generate an overwhelming response during the accompanying 45-day comment period. Help us tell the BLM loud and clear that we want to see the Central Coast’s iconic landmarks, communities, and water supplies protected from fracking and fossil fuel development. Thank you for your support!
