for Leasing Certain Parcels Within the Bakersfield Field Office
for the June 14, 2006 Oil and Gas Lease Sale
The Bureau of Land Management has prepared an Environmental
Assessment for its upcoming auction of federal public land to
the oil industry. The document analyzes the environmental damage
that will be caused if the agency proceeds to lease 36 parcels
totaling 20,800 acres in Santa Barbara, Ventura, San Luis
Obispo, and Kern Counties. Many of these parcels are located on
the edge of the Los Padres National Forest, the Carrizo Plain
National Monument, and the Bitter Creek National Wildlife
Refuge.
