The Forest Service publishes its
Schedule of Proposed Actions (called "SOPA" for short) four
times per year in January, April, July, and October. It is
designed to notify the public about upcoming projects that are
planned for the Los Padres National Forest.
For each project, the SOPA
gives the location, a short description of the proposal, its
status, opportunities for public comment, and the name of the
particular official in charge of the project. The SOPA includes
everything from major activities like oil drilling, construction
of off-road vehicle routes, authorization of livestock grazing,
and logging, to beneficial projects like the removal of small
defunct dams and the eradication of invasive weeds, to small
projects like campsite repairs and road maintenance.
The format of the SOPA has
changed over the years. Earlier versions of the SOPA (1999 and
before) were called the Environmental Newsletter. At one point,
it was published every other month, but now is published
quarterly.
All SOPAs for the Los Padres
National Forest are listed below.
