ATTEND OUR FOREST FORUM ON
MARCH 30
Event Kicks
Off ForestWatch's Citizens' Forest Campaign - Learn How You Can
Help Protect the Los Padres National Forest
SANTA BARBARA - On March 30,
ForestWatch will begin a series of Forest Forums designed to
show how you and other concerned citizens can help protect the
Los Padres National Forest. The first Forest Forum will be held
in Santa Barbara.
The forum, which is free and
open to the public, will begin at 7:00pm with the showing of a
ten-minute movie titled America's National Forests,
produced by High Plains Films and the United Forest Defense
Campaign. Following the movie, ForestWatch will present a
slideshow highlighting the landscapes, rivers, and wildlife of
the Los Padres National Forest and current threats to these
magnificent lands.
ForestWatch staff will then
give a presentation on how you can help to protect your public
lands. Attendees will receive their own copy of the
soon-to-be-released Citizens' Guide to Protecting Your
National Forest, produced by ForestWatch, and will have a
chance to find out more about our volunteer forest monitoring
program.
The evening will conclude at
8:30pm with an opportunity to write a short letter to the U.S.
Forest Service urging them to protect large old-growth trees on
Figueroa Mountain from logging. Comments on this logging
proposal must be submitted to the agency by the next day, so
this forum will be an excellent opportunity to urge the Forest
Service to protect this popular recreation area in Santa
Barbara's backyard.
Throughout the evening,
ForestWatch will also showcase several books, guides, and maps
of the Los Padres, and will launch its fashionable line of
ForestWatch t-shirts in several styles and colors. Everyone in
attendance will be given a chance to win a FREE t-shirt. Also,
the first ten people through the doors who bring the flier and a
friend will receive a FREE membership.
Download the flier.
The event is sponsored in part
by the Fund for Santa Barbara and the Santa Barbara Foundation.
Other Forest Forums are planned for Ventura, San Luis Obispo,
and other communities surrounding the forest starting in April.
