 Dear Project Leader, As someone who's concerned about the health of our national forest, I'm writing to ask that you protect large old-growth trees on Figueroa Mountain. I am strongly opposed to the logging of large trees on the mountain. These big trees are already fire resistant, and cutting them down will only increase the fire danger in the area. If any logging occurs here, it should be done in a way that causes the least amount of environmental damage possible. I support healthy forests and legitimate fuels reduction activities to protect homes from wildfire. Cutting down large trees deep in the forest will not accomplish either of these goals. Please reconsider your logging plan. I support Alternative 3, which would protect all of the big trees on Figueroa. It's a step in the right direction, but I hope you will also take additional steps, like thinning vegetation by hand instead of using heavy machinery that could smother rare plants and send erosion into our mountain streams. I also hope that you protect the area’s wildlife, clean water, and recreation. These are the things that make this area so wonderful, and I hope the Forest Service takes the utmost care in protecting our mountain.
