On January 21, 2009, the U.S.
Bureau of Land Management (BLM) released its long-awaited draft
Resource Management Plan for the Carrizo Plain National
Monument. The plan, when finalized later this year, will serve
as a blueprint for land use activities on more than 206,000
acres of public lands in southeastern San Luis Obispo County.
The BLM will accept comments on
the draft plan through April 23, 2009. ForestWatch is working
with our region's leading scientific experts and a coalition of
conservation organizations to ensure that the plan contains
strong protections for wildlife and wilderness on the Carrizo
Plain. We will be submitting our recommendations to the BLM.
Stay tuned for how you can submit comments to the agency and
participate in this process.
