West Camino Invasives Project

Week before last, a small team of ForestWatch volunteers joined the US Forest Service to remove invasive weeds along the far West Camino Cielo, near both Bald Mountain and Gaviota Peak.

The focus for the day’s project was yellow star thistle and veldt grass, two species of particularly tenacious noxious weeds. Both can out-compete native desirable vegetation and star thistle especially can develop impenetrable stands. This project served as a primer for future ForestWatch efforts along this stretch of the Santa Ynez Mountains. A great day of service, with outstanding views!
